2008 Candidates

So i was curious as to how things would work out with one of these quizzes. I have a few friends who told me they took it and it seems like these quizzes were favoring Obama. I dont think this is the same quiz since it didnt give me a percentage. But I took it, and I actually got Hillary.
So the fact that I was favoring her is really standing true. I think that anyone deciding their vote based on these quizzes should use due diligence and at least find a few different quizzes to make sure thaty they are not basing their vote on one biased quiz.
Here are a few quizzes:

5 Oceans???

Tonight I learned that there are 5 oceans.

I could have sworn that when I was in elementary school there were only 4 Oceans. To me, this was about as well known to me as there are 7 continents, 365 days in a year, 24 hours in a day, and 3 feet in a yard.

It turns out, when I was right. I learned correctly that there were 4 Oceans. The Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic. BUT... in 2000 they added a new ocean. The Southern ocean is the ocean that surrounds Antarctica.
This new ocean ranks as the number 4th largest ocean in the world. The Pacific, Atlantic and Indian are 64, 33 and 28 million square miles respectively. The Southern is almost 8 million square miles and the arctic is 5. I feel like the 3 above were cheated out of area. Not that they need it, but they were all cheated out of at least 2 million quare miles. Imagine what a fit the world would have if there was a group one day that decided to remove 2 million milles from your continent and added it to a new one? They would protest. I protest on behalf of the Pacific (my favorite ocean).

Excited!!

I am really excited. Josh and I leave next Tuesday, so I have enough time to pack and get ready... without having to run around like a crazy person yet. That is, assuming I decide to start packing... adn we all know how much I hate procrastination ;)
I got my camera. I finally ended up deciding on the Canon SD1000. It was hard to decide between the small cute canon with great picture quality and no image stabilization that had been out for just a month vs the Panasonic 10x optical zoom with image stabilization that had been out for over a year that was big for a pocket camera but small for that much zoom. I ended up with the small cute great photos becuase i decided that if I wanted a small camera, i may as well get the smallest. If I really wanted the zoom, I could go for the really nice cameras that have 12x zoom that were larger anyways. So instead of getting the in between zoom and size, i got the best of the small... and Josh at some point in the next 3 ears plans on getting the best of the big guys :) So I get the best fo both orlds eventually :)
Josh and I decided to also splurge on ourselves and get Nintendo DS Lites. It is such a fun cool console. We got 5 games... Tetris DS which is great alone and against people. Kirby Squeak Squad which only Josh has played to this point. New Super Mario Brothers which is just all around the most excellent because it has a bit of mario brothers and a bit of mario party :). Big Brain Academy which is an ok game, but has great multiplayer games and you can have up to 8 DSs playing together. And the best... Brain Age. This is basically why we bought the console :)
YAY ITALY!!

August

I dont like August. It is the worst month of all. I am not quite sure why i dislike it so much. Maybe it has to do with growing up and having vacations June-September. You may look at that set of dates and be like... um... Dana, you make no sense. but if you really think about it, I am right. (like always).
Let me explain:
June is exciting becuase youre in school and youre all ready to be finished. Sometimes you took vacations right when school gets out so there was something exciting to do. Or maybe you even just slept in all morning and did nothing int he afternoons.
July is the month where you are not thinking about school at all anymore yet enjoying all yoru time in the sun, which is very beautiful. Maybe go out on the lake a bit. When I went to camp (6th-10th grades) then it was really fun. Camp was always a great time for me even if you did have to wake up and be ready for the day at 830am which you werent used to due to the month of June.
and then we get to the horrible month: August. By this time you are tired of the sun. Is not just hot, but now its stuffy too. You cant do anythign fun becuase you already have exhausted all the fun things to do in June and July. You start to think about school becuase you have to buy school supplies, and the weeks go by fast... but you dont want them to.
Most people would hate Sepptember but by this time you are ready to see all your friends everyday and go to your new classes... which were sometimes fun.
And there you have my dislike of the month August. bleh.

Italy Photo Book

Recently my mom told me about this photo book though the costco photo center. I have heard of many online photobooks but usually they are very expensive. iPhoto was the first one I started playing around with once, but I got bored after knowing that I wasnt going to pay lots of money yet alone the more than $100 they wanted for it. So when my mom told me that she made 2 books for under 30 each, I was intrigued. I downloaded the program and started to play around. I decided to do my trip to Europe.
I started with my Italy excursions and those ended up being 60 pages. I hadnt even started on the other 7 countries I visited so I decided that I was going to make 2 seperate books beucase I and I didnt want 100 pages in a book.
Anyways... I finally got my Italy book in the mail and it turned out very good.

Frustration

Do you ever get sick of certain people? Its weird how some people I can live with someone everyday and not get frustrated, yet see someone for a few hours a week and be like, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

In Vino Veritas

This morning I was asked if there was such thing as a "Jewish Wedding" and whether or not drinking was allowed at these events. My answer was "yes, there is such thing as a jewsih wedding, and yes, alcohol is what the wedding is based off of" :) While this was my answer for weddings, I continued to delve into Jews and Alcohol
I went on saying that drinking is embedded in jews from the time a baby boy is born. AS part of the bris (the boy's foreskin removal ceremony) becuase they give the baby wine before cutting him. Then my friend said, I hope the rabbi doesnt drink. I responded, he does. After the cutting is done, everyone drinks whisky.
Then there is the passover holiday where everyone during the seder is suppoised to drink 5 glasses of wine even before they start the meal
Then there is Purim, where you are supposed to get so drunk that you should know the difference between the villian and the Hero of the holiday
I had learned in one of my classes at the UW that Jews invented the method in eastern europe to store grain in the form of alcohol becuase it lasted longer. This was not confirmed by my research on Wikipedia today. Apparently they are very into the arabic and islamic versions of the story. This seems to confuse me greatly... beucase I thought that the islamic religion was very against drinking......... hmmmmmmm......... ??????????
But anyways, apparently they had alcohol back in prehistoric times... and of course the greeks and romans had it.
IN VINO VERITAS! (in wine there is truth)

Italy

As most of you know, I love Italy. I always talk about it, I know Italian, and always know the cheapest flight to Italy.<br>
I was watching TV with my mom last night and we were upset about the fact that Brothers nad SIsters was a repeat. So we were channel surfing and I saw this show called Ciao Italia! So I was like... hmm, lets watch this. I was on channel 12 and there was this older Italian woman and this other lady who runs the show. The older Italian lady was cooking and only speaking in Italian. The other lady was doing the translating what the Italian woman was saying. The translating lady would ask the woman cooking questions like, how many tomatoes, how long do you cook. She would keep getting answers like, depends on how many people you are having, or depends on how big the pan is. You just know. This was very amusing beucase I didnt like the lady. And... also becuase thats exactly the kinds of answers my great grandma would give. "You just know"<br>
I decided I liked the show, but not because of the lady who is normally on it, but because of the Italian lady. I think there should just be an Italian cooking show. <br>

Better yet, I should go to Italy, knock on someones door in the countryside and ask them to teach me to make traditional Italian food, from making my own pasta, to the yummy veal sauce they made. Mmmmm yummy. <br>

The lady translating didn’t even translate everything for people like my mom who was watching.
